Product Description

Sodium hexametaphosphate is an inorganic substance with the molecular formula (NaPO3)6. It is soluble in water but insoluble in organic solvents.

Property: White powder or granules; density: 2.484 g/cm3 (20 °C); freely soluble in water but insoluble in organic solvents. It is hygroscopic and becomes sticky when exposed to moist air. It can form soluble complexes with metal ions such as Ca, Ba, Mg, Cu and Fe, making it an excellent water treatment agent.
 

Performance Characteristics of Sodium Hexametaphosphate

It is a linear sodium polyphosphate polymer, appearing as transparent glassy flakes or white crystalline powder. It exhibits strong hygroscopicity and becomes sticky after absorbing moisture. It is readily soluble in water with relatively high solubility but slow dissolution rate; its aqueous solution is acidic. It is easily hydrolyzed into phosphites. It can form soluble complexes with metal ions (e.g., calcium, magnesium), enabling water softening, and also complexes with lead, silver and barium salts.

Uses of Sodium hexametaphosphate
1)SHMP is used as a sequestrant across a wide range of industries, including applications as a food additive.
2)A major application of sodium hexametaphosphate is serving as a deflocculant in the production of clay-based ceramic materials.
3)It is also employed as a dispersing agent to disperse clay and other soil types.
4)It acts as an active ingredient in toothpastes for anti-staining and tartar control.

In practical application, sodium hexametaphosphate, as an excellent water treatment agent, can promote hydration, help to disperse the sediment in beverages, and make drinks clearer.
At the same time, it also plays an important role in metal surface treatment, cement hardening acceleration, paste diffusion in coated paper, and oil drilling.
 

For food-grade applications, it is mainly used as a food additive, pH adjuster, fermentation agent and nutrient supplement;

For industrial applications (e.g., oil fields, papermaking, textiles, dyeing, petrochemical industry, tanning industry, metallurgical industry and building materials industry), it is mainly used as a water softener in printing, dyeing and boiler water treatment;

As a dispersant in papermaking;

As a corrosion inhibitor, flotation agent, dispersion medium, high-temperature binder, cleaning agent and soil analysis reagent.
